Donbass

At the centre of the documentary is the east of Ukraine. The region is called Donbass. The director Anne-Laure Bonnel travels there. With her is a father of a family called Alexander. Alexander is Ukrainian and he is the one who knows the way. The two of them cross into an area held by the pro-Russian side. Bonnel films in the middle of the fighting. The camera goes into wrecked houses. People who have stayed there are spoken to. The account shows what the war does to civilians. The need for aid is recorded as well. The director herself appears on screen. Anne-Laure Bonnel directed the fifty seven minute documentary, made together by Germany, France, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Ukraine, and finished in 2016.
