What Don't Come Knocking Is About
Howard Spence has spent years in Westerns and has burned himself down with drink and drugs. One day, mid-shoot, he gets on his horse and rides off the set: first to the mother he has not seen in years, then, on learning he may have a child somewhere, to Butte, Montana. Sam Shepard wrote the film and plays the lead; he and Wenders had worked together before on Paris, Texas, and this returns to the same wound of abandonment. Jessica Lange, Tim Roth and Sarah Polley are in the cast.
