What Double Harness Is About
Joan manoeuvres a wealthy playboy with no intention of marrying into a wedding, and then takes on the harder job of making him actually love her. The film discusses marriage as a contract and carries the frankness of the years before the Hays code was enforced. It went unseen for nearly seventy years: it was one of six titles sold out of the RKO library in 1946, and it was restored and shown again in 2007. A two-and-a-half-minute passage was put back at the same time, recovered from a negative held in France, which had made the couple’s premarital relationship explicit. Ann Harding and William Powell star.
