What Down Three Dark Streets Is About
An FBI agent is killed on duty. Three separate and entirely unrelated files are left on the dead man's desk: a fraud, a kidnapping and a theft. His colleague John Ripley takes all three over, because he knows the killer is inside one of those files. What he does not know is which one. Arnold Laven's film is one of those productions that walk step by step through the FBI's own methods: the laboratory, sound recordings, wiretaps and patient surveillance. Running three separate stories at once gives the picture an unusual structure. Broderick Crawford plays the agent. The finale takes place beneath the Hollywood sign, something nobody had done yet in 1954.
