Slaughter on 10th Avenue

William Keating has just started at the district attorney’s office. He is handed a murder committed on the waterfront. The man who was killed was a longshoreman. He had exposed how the gangs ran the piers. He was shot on the stairway of his building for it. Before he dies he gives his wife the names of his killers. Keating starts the investigation from there. On the docks, though, nobody talks. There is a code of silence among the workers. Everyone who could be a witness chooses to say nothing. The man at the head of the union stands behind it. A homicide detective works alongside the prosecutor. The two of them have to draw the evidence out of the dockers themselves. The story was taken from real case files. The film is shot in a manner close to documentary. Richard Egan and Jan Sterling appear in the hundred and three minute film, an American production Arnold Laven finished in 1957.
