Einstein and Einstein

Li Wan is thirteen. Her parents have separated and she lives with her grandparents. To cover his guilt her father buys her a dog, and she names it Einstein. One day the dog is lost. Rather than look for it, the family finds a similar dog and sets about getting the girl to accept that it is the same one. Everybody keeps the lie going. Around the same time it emerges that her father's new marriage has produced a son. Her growing up is exactly this: she stops objecting. Cao Baoping's film was finished in 2013 and only reached cinemas in China in 2018. It took a special mention from the jury in the youth section at Berlin. Two hours.
