Elway

Ken Rodgers's 2025 documentary covers the career of the American football player John Elway. The telling is largely in his own voice, and the documentary follows the period from his college years to the end of his professional career. Repeated defeats are at the centre. Elway reached the biggest finals and lost one after another; the success that came near the end of his career is built on that history, and the film gives its weight to the losses. The archive material is extensive and game footage is used in detail. Teammates and coaches speak; the narrative does not look critically at Elway's choices and passes briefly over the contested periods. Who it's for: those interested in American football and sports biography. Who it's not for: viewers unfamiliar with the sport; the documentary uses the rules and the context of the era without explaining them.
