Endless Rain

Cho Jin-mo's 2021 Korean film follows Young-ho, who took several attempts to enter university and has no particular aim in life. A correspondence begins; he never meets the person on the other end and the exchange stretches over years. The idea is a meeting continually postponed. Both want to meet and something intervenes each time; the narrative shows this not as a chain of bad luck but as both of them really wanting the correspondence. The narrative runs on two timelines and rain is a recurring motif. Kang Ha-neul and Chun Woo-hee lead. The tone is calm and the emotional rise saved for the end; the final section approaches melodrama. Who it's for: those who like Korean romantic drama. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a fast-moving narrative; the film runs through letters and the pace is very low.
