In New York, the street artist Jabari has had his graffiti character Mr Rager picked up for a comic adaptation. At the same time he meets Meadow, a photographer who moves into his building. The question is simple: can he carry his ambition and a relationship at once. Created by Kid Cudi as a visual companion to his album of the same name. It was first planned as a television series, redeveloped as a single film and released on Netflix on 30 September 2022. Fletcher Moules directed. Kid Cudi and Kenya Barris are creators and executive producers. The method ran backwards. Cudi has said he recorded the music first, worked back from it to build the story, and then hired writers to script it. DNEG Animation in London handled the animation. The visual language draws on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and When Harry Met Sally. The voice cast includes Jessica Williams, Timothée Chalamet, Ty Dolla Sign, Laura Harrier, Vanessa Hudgens and Christopher Abbott. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 97 percent. It won several awards and drew Emmy recognition, and despite Cudi's requests Netflix never made a second season. Who it is for: viewers who like adult animation, Kid Cudi's music and visually unusual work. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a strong plot. The story is a familiar romantic comedy and the weight is in the images and the music.
