A donkey working in a circus is taken away under animal welfare regulations and passed on elsewhere. He changes hands from Poland to Italy. The film ties its narrative entirely to the animal's point of view; people enter and leave and none of their stories is completed. The narrative states no message, and every group of people we see decides what to do with him according to their own interest. Jerzy Skolimowski directed. It took the Jury Prize at Cannes. It was made as an open homage to a film by Robert Bresson. A real warning: violence against animals is shown and the ending is very hard. The scenes with animals were made under supervision, and the narrative is merciless.
