What Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight Is About
When Toru is pushed into befriending his classmate Maori, he is handed an odd list of rules: they will not walk home together, take photographs, or use her name. The reason emerges later; Maori does not remember the previous day when she wakes, and each morning begins by reading her own life out of a notebook. Takahiro Miki works inside the familiar shape of the Japanese youth drama, but the illness here is not decoration, it determines the entire mechanics of the relationship: meeting again every day. The emotional line is the notebook itself. A piece of information at the end forces a rereading. The source is Misaki Ichijo's novel. Who it is for: viewers who like Japanese youth melodrama and love stories built on memory. Who it is not for: anyone wary of emotional manipulation, which the ending performs openly.
