Ex-Shaman

The documentary is set in the Amazon basin. At the centre of the account are the Paiter Suruí people. They met the outside world in 1969. After that date their lives changed fast. Electricity and fuel came into the village. Medicine and weapons followed. Now there are mobile phones and social media as well. The old way of living has been left behind. Illness is a serious threat to the community. The church holds a strong place in the village too. Perpera used to be the village shaman. He no longer does that work. But he is looking for a way to bring back the old vitality. The documentary follows him. Luiz Bolognesi directed the eighty one minute documentary. The Brazilian production was finished in 2018.
