FAR. The Story of a Journey around the World

Patrick and Gwendolin set off from Freiburg. The rules are simple: no flying, no more than five euros a day. They head east by hitchhiking, bus, train and ship. Ukraine, Russia, China, Japan, the Americas. The journey takes three and a half years and covers more than a hundred thousand kilometres. They carry the camera and shoot it themselves. What they record is not landscape but people: the ones who opened a door, gave them food, stopped the car, and wanted nothing back. Gwendolin Weisser and Patrick Allgaier directed it together. Two hours and eight minutes. It found an unexpectedly large audience in Germany and was treated as the cinema event of the year; in 2018 it was shortlisted for the German Film Award for documentary.
