Private detective Philip Marlowe is hired by Moose Malloy, a huge man just out of prison, to find his old girlfriend, a woman who was dancing in a club years ago. At the same time he is looking into the murder of a client and a stolen jade necklace. The lines cross over secrets nobody wants surfaced, and a woman called Helen Grayle is standing in the middle of all of it. Adapted from Raymond Chandler’s novel, with Robert Mitchum as a tired Marlowe who never quite loses his humour.
