What Fernando Torres: The Last Symbol Is About
The documentary tells the life and career of the Spanish footballer Fernando Torres. The account gives his time at the clubs, what he won with the national side and the years when he was out of form together; what makes it interesting is that it does not skip the periods of decline. Footballers he played beside and coaches he worked under speak in the film. The account also asks how an athlete contends with his own image: what it means for someone who has become the symbol of a club to leave it. The account is not content to line up goals and trophies; it shows how fragile the bond between an athlete and a crowd is. Moments on the pitch are set beside what was said about them afterwards. The hundred and eight minute Spanish documentary by Laura Alvea and Jose F. Ortuno was completed in 2020.
