What Fighting Man of the Plains Is About
Jim Dancer, a former bandit, becomes marshal of a town in Kansas and sets about clearing the criminals out of it. But what he leans on while doing the job is not the law alone: he takes help from his old friend Jesse James. That puts the man in a hard place with both the town and his own past. The film uses the moulds of the American western made at the turn of the fifties and leaves it unclear whose hands the law is in. The account does not draw its hero as a clean figure. Randolph Scott plays the lead in Edwin L. Marin’s ninety four minute American film, completed in 1949.
