Film: The Living Record of Our Memory

The documentary takes up the preservation of film. The question it puts is why we can still watch images from a hundred and twenty five years ago. The answer lies with the people who work in the archives. Archivists speak in the film. Technicians and directors appear as well. Those speaking come from different countries. Costa-Gavras is among them. How the film strip is kept is explained. The repair of damaged copies is shown. It is said too that much of cinema has been lost. The move into the digital age is a heading of its own. Serge Bromberg is among those speaking. The documentary is built as a thank you to those who do that work. The account reaches back to the first years of cinema. Ines Toharia Teran directed the hundred and twenty minute documentary, a Canadian and Spanish coproduction of 2022.
