Finding Emily

This Working Title British romantic comedy is built on a single missing digit. Owen, a musician played by Spike Fearn, falls for a girl on campus at first sight; she gives him her phone number, but one digit is missing. He sets about combing Manchester for the right Emily, accompanied by a driven American psychology student, also called Emily, played by Angourie Rice. Rachel Hirons wrote it and Alicia MacDonald directed. Minnie Driver is also in the cast. It opened in the United Kingdom on 22 May 2026 and in the United States on 28 August 2026, distributed by Universal and Focus Features. The structure tells the audience who the real object of the search is well before the halfway mark, which in this genre is an expectation rather than a flaw. The film's job is to make the road to that known ending enjoyable, and to turn Manchester into the search itself rather than a backdrop. Who it is for: viewers who like the classic British romantic comedy and films that live on the chemistry between two leads. Who it is not for: anyone wanting surprise or a story that steps outside its genre.
