Finding Oscar

In December 1982, in the village of Dos Erres in Guatemala, a special unit of the army killed the villagers. The case was left forgotten for a long time. Only two small children survived. One of them, Oscar, was taken and raised by one of the men involved. Years later a forensic scientist and a prosecutor set about tracing him. The documentary tells that search and the legal process behind it. Identification tests, testimony and archive material are inside the account. The film does not lay out what happened as spectacle; it asks why accountability was so long in coming. The hundred minutes are given to a single case. Ryan Suffern’s American documentary was completed in 2016.
