What Fist of Fury 1991 Is About
Lau Ching comes to Hong Kong from the mainland looking for his cousin, with nothing to his name but an extraordinarily powerful right arm. Along the way he takes up with a drifter called Handsome. Then he sees Mandy, who practises martial arts, and is lost. To win her he enters a fighting tournament with a ten million prize, and the man waiting for him in the ring is Wai, who is also his rival for her. Stephen Chow and Kenny Bee star. The title nods at Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury, but the tone is comedy from beginning to end. It comes out of the nonsense comedy that was enormously popular in nineties Hong Kong, and the fights are deliberately absurd.
