What Food Chains Is About

The documentary looks at how the food supply chain works in the United States and at the way the power of the large supermarket chains to set prices pushes down the wages and working conditions of farmworkers. At the centre are the workers of Immokalee in Florida, where wage theft, exposure to toxic pesticides and the harassment women workers face are all part of those conditions. The union the workers formed goes on hunger strike against a supermarket chain over one additional cent per pound. Sanjay Rawal’s eighty three minute film is narrated by Forest Whitaker, with Eva Longoria and Eric Schlosser among its producers, and it won a James Beard Foundation award in 2015.
