Gather

The documentary is about a movement among Indigenous Americans. Food is at the centre of it. Communities are returning to their ancestral food systems. What they are after is sovereignty over those systems. It is a cultural recovery at the same time. Spiritual ties are rebuilt through the same work. A long history stands behind all of it. Centuries of genocide is the name of that history. The harm it left has been carried down through generations. The film shows this through individual people. Four of them come to the front, Nephi Craig, Elsie Dubray, Sammy Gensaw and Twila Cassadore. The account moves through what each of them is doing, and the film says the movement is growing. Sanjay Rawal made the seventy four minute documentary, an American production finished in 2020.
