In the emptied out village of Jotuomba everyone has a fixed task: Madalena bakes the bread each morning, Antonio makes the coffee, the two of them argue and then sit outside his shop with their cups. The bell rings at midday and they all eat together in the evening. Time seems to have stopped; nobody dies and the cemetery gate is locked. Then Rita, a young photographer, arrives looking for somewhere to stay. Julia Murat's film is a quiet piece of thinking about memory, habit and growing old. Our Turkish record puts Rita at the centre; the film belongs to Madalena.
