Four Little Adults

Selma Vilhunen's 2023 Finnish film follows Juulia, a member of parliament. She learns that her husband Matias, a pastor, is involved with another woman. Rather than leaving, Juulia proposes rebuilding the arrangement. An agreement among three is attempted and a fourth person enters; the narrative makes none of it easy and shows how jealousy returns. Alma Pöysti and Eero Milonoff lead. The tone is measured and there is humour. The film ends without vindicating anyone. Who it's for: viewers of Nordic relationship drama. Who it's not for: viewers uncomfortable with arrangements outside monogamy; the film puts that at its centre.
