Gilda

One of the best-known women in film noir. Johnny Farrell goes to work for Ballin Mundson, who runs a casino in Buenos Aires. One day the man announces that he has married and introduces his wife: Gilda. Johnny and Gilda already know each other, and there is an account between them that ended without ever being closed. The tension is not murder or gambling but the looks between three people. Johnny and Gilda say they hate each other, and what that means is argued over for the length of the film. The position of the third man is left as ambiguous as the censorship of the period allowed. The scene in which Rita Hayworth sings Put the Blame on Mame, built around the removal of a single glove, became one of the most cited passages in cinema. Hayworth plays Gilda, Glenn Ford plays Johnny and George Macready plays Mundson. Charles Vidor directed. A genre classic for anyone who loves 1940s Hollywood and noir.
