The Desperadoes

A bank is robbed in the town of Red Valley. Around the same time a wanted gunman, Cheyenne Rogers, rides in and naturally becomes the first suspect. In fact he had nothing to do with it. Sheriff Steve Upton is an old friend of his and wants to believe him; but as far as the town is concerned the matter is clear. Cheyenne has to find the real robbers to clear his name. Charles Vidor directed the film from a story by Max Brand, and it became the first Columbia production released in colour. Colour is a piece of showmanship here: red earth, a herd of horses, wide compositions. Glenn Ford plays Cheyenne and Randolph Scott the sheriff, with Claire Trevor and Evelyn Keyes in the cast. Where the town's respectable banker stands in the business is the real knot of the story.
