Fragments of the Last Will

After the war ended, thousands of Japanese were taken prisoner. They were sent to camps in Siberia. Yamamoto Hatao was one of them. The conditions were severe and the cold unbearable. Years passed with no permission to return. Yamamoto held on to his hope. In Japan his wife Mojimi was waiting for him. In his letters and his talk he spoke always of going home. He kept the men in the camp going as well. He made room for them to read and to write. The waiting stretched to eleven years. The last will he left behind reached his family through the men who came back. The film is based on a true story. Its source is a book of reportage about the case. Kazunari Ninomiya and Keiko Kitagawa appear in the hundred and thirty four minute film, a Japanese production Takahisa Zeze finished in 2022.
