Francesco Carrozzini films a portrait of his mother, Franca Sozzani. For nearly thirty years Sozzani was editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue and kept pushing at the limits of fashion publishing. The issue shot entirely with Black models, the plastic surgery issue, the editorial built around an oil spill: each of them was praised and sharply criticised at once. What makes the film interesting is who directed it. A son looks at his mother with admiration and with an old grievance; some of his questions are not a journalist's questions but a child's. That closeness makes the film both intimate and partial, and the production does not hide it. Sozzani died in December 2016, a few months after the film screened in Venice.
