What Funny Dirty Little War Is About
In a small Argentine town, one group of Peronists calls the newly elected Peronist official a communist, and within hours the argument has become an armed fight. To hold his post the man gathers whoever he can, from the town drunk to young militants. Hector Olivera made this short film from Osvaldo Soriano’s novel at almost slapstick speed, with something very serious sitting under the places you laugh. It opened in September 1983, just as the country was coming out from under military rule. The title comes from a Gardel tango.
