Andrew Kötting What Gallivant Is About
The documentary follows one journey. Three people make it. Andrew Kötting is behind the camera. His grandmother Gladys, who is eighty five, comes along. So does his daughter Eden, who is seven. Eden has Joubert syndrome. The three of them travel in a campervan. They set off around the coast of Britain. The route zigzags and comes to nearly ten thousand kilometres. The trip takes four months. Gladys talks without stopping and her recollections do not always agree with one another. Something grows between the great grandmother and the child, and the film runs as home movie and road movie at once. The hundred minute documentary was Andrew Kötting’s first feature, a British production finished in 1996.
