Garudan

R. S. Durai Senthilkumar's 2024 Tamil film is a story of land and loyalty set in the Theni region. A minister's designs on temple land set Aadhi and Karuna, friends since childhood, against each other. The third man between them, Chokkan, is trusted by both, and what the film is really about is how he carries that trust. The story belongs to the rural action tradition of Tamil cinema: feud, caste relations, temple politics and a hard revenge plot built on top of them. Soori, known for years in comic roles, takes a dramatic part here and the weight of the film rests on him. The final section is heavy on violence. Who it's for: viewers who like Tamil rural action. Who it's not for: anyone avoiding harsh violence and familiar revenge structures.
