Gaza Surf Club

The documentary follows young people living in Gaza. Gaza lies between the borders of Egypt and Israel. Movement in and out is tightly controlled. Daily life goes on under a state of emergency. The young people are weary of it. Going to the beach opens a space for them. They take up surfing. Boards are not easy to come by. Equipment gets in from outside with difficulty. They keep going into the water all the same. Surfing is more than a pastime for them. They are looking for meaning in their lives. They are trying to draw some perspective for themselves. The documentary tells this through days spent at the shore. A young woman goes into the waves as well. Ibrahim N. Arafat and Mohammed Abu Jayab appear in the eighty seven minute documentary. It is a German production two directors finished in 2017.
