Night Journey

Ali, a film director, and Yavuz, a screenwriter, are close friends of entirely different temperaments who set out to find a location for the film they are about to make. Once they find the place, Yavuz goes back to Istanbul. Ali, who keeps to himself, stays on in a deserted ancient town on the Mediterranean; he settles into a ruined house in an abandoned Greek village, sits down at his typewriter, drops the script he had and starts writing something else entirely. The film builds a crisis of making into something close to a ghost story, and who is real becomes steadily less certain. Omer Kavur’s hundred minute film was shown in Un Certain Regard at Cannes and took the awards for best film, director, actor and cinematography at Antalya; Aytac Arman plays the lead and the production was completed in 1987.
