Born into a modest family, Gerry Boulet became famous with the Quebec rock band Offenbach, and after a life of drugs and alcohol and one great love story he died of cancer in 1990. Alain Desrochers’s hundred and thirty one minute film does not turn that life into a saint’s tale; it sets the man on stage next to the man off it. Nathalie Petrowski wrote the screenplay. The film was shown in Boulet’s home town of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu on 30 May 2011 and opened in Quebec cinemas on 15 June, and the concert sequence at the Montreal Forum required three thousand extras. Mario Saint-Amand plays the lead.
