What Get Thrashed Is About
Rick Ernst's 2006 documentary follows the rise and fall of thrash metal and what it left behind. It draws a long arc from the genre's birth at the start of the eighties, through its retreat in the nineties in the face of grunge and nu metal, to its return to circulation afterwards. What carries the film is not the archive but the people: Lars Ulrich, Tom Araya, Scott Ian, Phil Anselmo and others speaking from inside that scene. It covers why the music got so fast and so angry, which cities it came out of, and how it dealt with the record companies. Made for the fan and thick with detail.
