What Ghosts of Cité Soleil Is About

Cité Soleil is the poorest quarter of Port-au-Prince, and in 2004 the United Nations called it the most dangerous place on earth. President Jean-Bertrand Aristide’s most loyal supporters, the armed groups known as the Chimères, ran it like kings. Asger Leth and Milos Loncarevic followed two of their leaders, the brothers Bily and 2Pac, through the last days before Aristide fell, and over that time the two of them turn into each other’s enemies. Lele, a French aid worker, is with them for much of it. Wyclef Jean wrote the score and was one of the executive producers. The film neither turns these men into heroes nor judges them from a distance.
