God Said, 'Ha!'

The film is a recording of a stage performance. Julia Sweeney is alone on that stage. She talks about one year of her own life. That year she had just moved into a small house in Los Angeles. Then her brother Mike was diagnosed with cancer. He moved into her house for his treatment. Her parents came too and the house filled up. Sweeney found herself a carer overnight. Around the same time she was diagnosed with a rare cancer herself. Two illnesses were running through the same house. Her brother died before the year was out. Sweeney tells all of this on stage through comedy. The account does not hide the pain, and it does not surrender to it either. For an hour and a half she never leaves the stage.
