What Good Neighbor Sam Is About

Sam Bissell works at an advertising agency, has a family and behaves impeccably. His neighbour Janet is divorced and needs to appear married in order to claim a substantial inheritance, so Sam agrees to pose as her husband. The complication is that his own recent promotion rests entirely on how wholesome and moral he looks, and the machinery required to keep one lie standing spills straight into his working life. David Swift directs, with Jack Lemmon as Sam and Romy Schneider as Janet. It is a fast comedy of misunderstanding, aimed at sixties American advertising and the moral hypocrisy that came with it.
