Goodbye June

When their mother June is taken into hospital, four siblings gather in the same room a few days before Christmas. Everything unsaid for years opens up in that room, around the bed, at the worst possible time. Kate Winslet made her first film as a director from a screenplay written by her son Joe Anders, and plays one of the siblings herself. The story uses the deathbed template but does not pour the emotion into a single channel: most scenes are funny and unbearable at once. Helen Mirren plays June, with Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough and Timothy Spall alongside. It had a limited release in December 2025 before going to Netflix. Who it is for: viewers who like British family drama and ensemble acting. Who it is not for: anyone who has recently been through a similar loss.
