Guillermo Vilas What Guillermo Vilas: Settling the Score Is About
The Argentine tennis player Guillermo Vilas has been asking for the same thing for more than forty years. His demand is this: that the official rankings between 1973 and 1978 be reviewed. He is waiting to be recognised as the best player in the world. The sports journalist Eduardo Puppo made that demand his own work. For more than ten years he pressed against a powerful sporting body. What he set out to prove was that Vilas had been unfairly displaced from the top. The documentary follows that effort and the calculations that came out of it. The film’s case is that Vilas is right, and that assessment is the film’s own. The ninety four minutes are spread over a long struggle. Matías Gueilburt’s Argentine documentary was completed in 2020.
