A Son of the Sun

Fikri Şemsigil has spent his whole life waiting for a miracle. In the end what he has been waiting for happens and he learns that he is the Son of the Sun. But the miracle turns out to be nothing like what he expected: his soul no longer stays in his own body and keeps passing into the people around him. One morning Fikri is looking out through the grocer's eyes, in the afternoon through his neighbour's. To stop it he has to find out why it is happening. It is one of Onur Ünlü's early films and the place where his own style is set: a fantastical idea, an ordinary neighbourhood, people who speak slowly, and dialogue that goes nowhere. Haluk Bilginer plays Fikri and does not overplay it at all; the man carries the miracle as though it were a nuisance. Özgü Namal and Bülent Emin Yarar are also in the cast. Ninety-two minutes. It is a comedy, but the places where you laugh are strange ones.
