Gupt: The Hidden Truth

Governor Jaisingh Sinha is murdered and suspicion settles immediately on his stepson Sahil. Sahil is convicted; everyone turns away from him and the witnesses speak against him. The only person who knows he did not do it is himself, and he escapes from prison. To find the real killer he goes back and starts working out where everyone was that night. Almost everyone around him has something to hide. It is among the most talked-about Indian thrillers of the nineties, and it owes that largely to its ending. When the film came out, who the killer was became a serious public question; the answer was a choice Indian mainstream cinema had not made before, and the performer in the role took an award for best villain. Rajiv Rai divides the two and a half hours between songs, chases and suspense. Bobby Deol, Kajol and Manisha Koirala are in the leads.
