What Hardly a Criminal Is About
A bank employee notices a gap in Argentine criminal law: the sentence for embezzlement does not exceed six years, however many people are harmed. So he takes a large sum and hides it, accepting that he will be caught and will serve his term; by his reckoning he will come out in six years and live on the money. But the years in prison bring out what the plan did not allow for, and nothing he left outside meets him as he expected. Hugo Fregonese’s eighty eight minute Argentine film builds the film noir pattern on a local question of law. Jorge Salcedo and Sebastián Chiola appear; it was completed in 1949.
