What Heartbeat Is About
Irénée works in his uncle's grocery in Provence and is convinced he is a great actor. A film crew passing through gets so tired of his self-importance that they play a joke on him and have him sign a fake contract. Irénée takes it for real, leaves the shop and goes to Paris. What happens when he finds out the truth at the studio is not what anyone expects. Marcel Pagnol wrote and directed the film, and it contains one of Fernandel's best-known performances. Schpountz is film-crew slang for the naive hanger-on who is certain he will be a star. Pagnol mocks the film business and takes the side of the naive man at the same time.
