Hedi

Hedi sells cars in Tunisia and his life runs to other people's plans. His mother has found him a wife, the wedding preparations are under way, and nobody has asked him what he wants. On a work trip to Mahdia he meets Rym, who works at a hotel. She is someone who has built her own life. For the first time, Hedi starts thinking about a decision of his own. This is Mohamed Ben Attia's first feature; it screened in competition at the Berlin Film Festival, took the best first feature award, and Majd Mastoura won the Silver Bear for best actor. The telling makes no grand statements and blames nobody; the mother is doing what she believes is right too. The subject is both the joy and the cost of freedom.
