What High Score Is About
Though technology keeps moving on, a group of players refuses to give up the old arcade games; the eighties go on for them, and they compete with one another and with history to set the world’s highest scores. The documentary follows Bill Carlton from Portland as he takes on one of the hardest records on the books, a twenty year old Atari record. To reach eighty million points he must play the game on a single coin for more than two days without a break; there is no pause button and no sleep. The film does not present the record as an oddity and gives it as a question of endurance. Jeremy Mack’s fifty two minute American documentary was completed in 2006.
