What High Tide Is About
Lilly sings backup for an Elvis impersonator, and when she loses the job she is stranded in a small coastal town. She takes a caravan in the local park and there, entirely by accident, runs into the daughter she left behind after her husband died. The girl does not know who she is. Working from Laura Jones’ screenplay, Gillian Armstrong treats motherhood not as a virtue but as something you can walk away from and find almost impossible to walk back into. Judy Davis and Jan Adele won best actress and best supporting actress at the Australian Film Institute awards.
