What The Last Days of Chez Nous Is About

The writer Beth lives in a crowded, cluttered house with her French husband J.P. and her teenage daughter; her sister Vicki comes home after a long journey away. The two sisters are nothing alike, and the days under one roof bring old accounts back with them. The affair that starts between Vicki and J.P. takes the house apart. The screenplay by Helen Garner moves through talk at the kitchen table rather than through big scenes, and Gillian Armstrong looks on without putting anybody entirely in the wrong. Lisa Harrow, Bruno Ganz and Kerry Fox appear in the ninety three minute Australian film, completed in 1992.
