Hollywood Without Make-Up

The documentary gathers footage from the golden age of Hollywood. Most of the material comes from home movies. Ken Murray shot those films himself. Murray carried his camera with him for years. He filmed on sets, at parties and in people’s houses. Footage shot by his friends went into the film as well. What that produced is an archive spanning three decades. On screen the famous appear without playing a part. They are seen without make up and without preparation. Mary Pickford, Lucille Ball and Rory Calhoun are among them. Cary Grant, Clark Gable and Humphrey Bogart appear too. The film looks at the ordinary side of that period. The man telling it is Murray himself. Ken Murray narrates the fifty minute documentary. It is an American production Loring d’Usseau and Rudy Behlmer finished in 1963.
