Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles

Sally Aitken's 2023 documentary tells the founding and near forty-year history of the Australian children's group The Wiggles. It began when three men studying early childhood education, along with a musician friend, tried writing songs for children. What is interesting is that the work is treated as a company as much as children's entertainment. Touring schedules, rights and the growth of the brand are told alongside the tensions inside the group. The health problem that led the member in yellow to leave forms the documentary's emotional centre. Aitken sets archive footage next to present-day interviews plainly; there is no formal ambition. Who it's for: the generation who watched the group as children, and those who like music industry documentaries. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a critical view; the documentary stays close to the group's own account.
